Redi-Rock in the Park: Clarion, PA, Community Transformation
Project Name: Second Avenue Park Owner: Clarion Borough Manufacturer: American Precast Industries Engineer: EADS Architects Location: Clarion, PA Wall Type: Gravity, Freestanding Texture: Ledgestone Year Built: 2021 Wall Area: 10,000 sq ft (929 sq m)
The Challenge: Turn a Vacant Lot into a Vibrant Community Space
A Clarion, PA, resident wanted to invest her endowment into something meaningful. She wanted to give local families a place to connect, enjoy, and belong. Her vision for a community park came into focus with the support of a local non-profit group and the Borough of Clarion.
The park plan evolved into a phased 5+ year construction timeline to transform a vacant lot into a thriving multi-generational park. Retaining walls were required to provide site infrastructure and clearly define park boundaries. With Redi-Rock producer American Precast on the board of the non-profit Clarion Blueprint Communities Inc., Redi-Rock retaining wall solutions were the natural choice to meet the group's goal of beautifying and supporting expansion projects in Clarion. Watch the video above, where Tom McConnell of American Precast Industries details how this project was accomplished.

Why Redi-Rock? Reliability, built to last.
The project team needed a system that offered strength and style to ensure the park remained a lasting and attractive gathering place for the community. Redi-Rock’s gravity and freestanding wall systems were the clear choice, and here’s why:
- Minimal excavation required: Gravity and freestanding wall systems allowed walls to be built without heavy excavation, which is ideal for a phased construction timeline and tight site constraints.
- Natural stone aesthetic: The Ledgestone texture blends seamlessly with the site’s surroundings and green spaces, adding to the flow of the natural park environment.
- Design flexibility: A combination of 41 in (1041 mm), 28 in (711 mm), and freestanding top blocks accommodated varying wall heights and site requirements.
- Built-in safety: Freestanding walls were topped with fencing to provide secure barriers where needed, enhancing safety for families and children.
- Ready for future growth: With a retaining wall system designed to support expansion, plans for an ice skating rink are already in the works.
- Community impact: Since opening, the park has become a source of pride, with residents taking ownership and demonstrating deep care for the space.

“We always tell people that if you build a Redi-Rock wall, it's gonna last until we're all long gone. It's gonna be really cool to see someday, you know, all of our grandkids, playing in this park as well.”
